A truck driver has been arrested after colliding with a 29-year-old female bicyclist in the Bronx on May 2. The driver, 45-year-old R. Owens, was driving down Southern Boulevard when he hit the bicyclist with his 2006 International Harvester box truck. After knocking the young woman to the ground, the truck hit her again with its front tire. The young woman was found lying in the street at around 8:50 A.M. and was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck is now facing criminal charges for failing to yield to a pedestrian and reckless driving.
Unyielding Representation for Bicycle Accident Victims
This tragic story is another reminder of how important it is to be a courteous driver and to share the road with others. Even in the busy streets of New York City, this type of accident is entirely preventable and should never have happened. Drivers who fail to pay attention to cyclists can and should be held legally responsible for their negligent actions.
